Listen to Trout Are Made of Trees by April Pulley Sayre
Color a picture of a trout. You can print the picture or color it online.
In the book, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett, the residents of Chewandswallow created rafts out of giant pieces of stale bread and set sail for a new land.
Your assignment:
Create a raft out of bread and see how long it will float.
“Glue” together 2 pieces of stale bread (let your bread sit out overnight or for a few hours to get hard) using peanut butter, jam, honey, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, or other condiment.
Add a sail from a food item of your choice. Be creative and use your imagination!
Decorate your boat with any other food items of your choice. You may include a small action figure, doll, or Lego minifig as a passenger on your boat.
Fill a bucket, pan or small swimming pool with water and see if your boat floats. Use a timer and see how long your boat stays afloat.
If you would like, have a parent take a picture of your boat and send it to me at rachel.aldrich@vallivue.org. I will post the pictures I get on this website. If you don’t want a picture of you online, please send only a picture of your boat. Please include your first name, last initial, and how long your boat stayed afloat. If you would like to view the boat pictures they will be posted starting May 4, 2020.
