ELA UPDATE:

WHAT ARE WE DOING NOW?

ELA PROGRAM: WONDERS

Wonders  is a comprehensive ELA program designed to reach all learners.  

Each week we have an essential question that follows throughout all our reading selections.  We work on a six day cycle and  give assessments on Day 6. At the start of each unit, we send home a parent letter as well as a new student packet which focuses on the spelling, vocabulary and grammar assigned for that particular week.

Everyday students are given independent reading time. Students are encouraged to always have an independent reading book at their desk.

Students are expected to complete one reading reaction as homework each week in their reading notebook. 

Students can log on to Connected via Class Link which is found on the Student Resources page on the Valley Stream 13 website. 

A time management schedule was given to them to help them break this task into manageable pieces. The deadlines for each task is as follows:

Students are also using bar models as one strategy to help them solve word problems. 

PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILDREN TO REVIEW MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION FACTS

MATH PROGRAM: MIF

Math in Focus. Students can log on to Think Central via Class Link which is found on the Student Resources page on the Valley Stream 13 website.  At the start of every math unit, I will send home a parent letter  which provides an overview of all the concepts being taught in the unit.
