Ms. Schambach’s Classroom Discipline Plan
Discipline Policy
The purpose of the discipline plan is to create a safe and positive learning environment for all students in the class. This plan ensures that each student has the ability to pursue a quality education and grow throughout their time in the classroom. It is important that Valley Academy, its students, and their parents collaborate in establishing clear expectations for student behavior.
It is very important that students understand that they are responsible for their own actions and behaviors! If these actions are a violation of the school rules, students will have to accept the consequences for their actions!
Classroom Rules
Be respectful of one another.
Follow directions the first time they are given to the best of your ability.
Raise your hand for permission to speak or leave your seat.
If a student does not follow expectations, there will be logical consequences. A student who is not doing what is expected, but not interfering with the learning or safety of others will be redirected to follow classroom expectations. For example, a student who is not paying attention will be redirected so that they are on task. For students who are not following expectations, and interfering with the learning, safety, or wellbeing of their classmates, consequences will follow.
Consequences
The consequence of not following the classroom rules follows a four-step process. This will be visually noted on a classroom “behavior board” with a magnet system. This process is always done in sequential order however a repeated pattern of behavior could warrant skipping a step. An exception to this would be an automatic Step 4 which is listed below.
*All students start the day doing “Great!.”
Verbal Warning: The teacher will issue a warning and remind the student that their behavior is inappropriate.
Step 1 – 5 Minute Loss of Recess
Step 2 – 10 Minute Loss of Recess
Step 3 – 15 Minute Loss of Recess
Step 4 – Detention / Office Referral: This step occurs after the student has not corrected behavior after the previous steps. The student has chosen to continue to disobey the classroom rules. If necessary, the student may leave the room and spend time in the office. Mrs. Breshears will determine the amount of time he/she will spend in the office before returning to class.
An automatic Step 4 occurs for behavior listed as severe in the Valley Academy planner. When this behavior occurs, the student immediately reports to the office.
At the end of each day, the students will start back at “Great!” on the behavior board. If the student reaches Step 3 at any time in the day, a note that needs to be signed will be in the planner.
Special Infractions
1) Planner Not Signed - 5 minutes on the wall at recess
2) Opportunity club for incomplete homework
3) Every 3 visits to opportunity club for incomplete homework will result in a 30-minute afterschool detention.
