4th Grade Expectations in the Classroom

• To contact me, please use my school email: dbeckham@valleyacademy.com. I typically return emails within 24 hours, Monday-Friday.  Please keep in mind that I do not access my school email weekends or days when I am absent from school.

• Students are expected to get their planners signed daily.  This is considered a homework assignment.

• Homework is assigned Monday-Thursday.  Homework is due at 8:00 AM the next morning.  Late work can be marked down to a high of 65%.

• Homework & classwork are graded in 4th grade.

• 4th graders are expected to complete 100 math problems in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in 3 minutes.

• Spelling tests are given weekly.  There are 40 new words and 10 review words each week.  Pretests are given Wednesday and the final tests are given Friday.  The words are difficult.  Students must study the words!

• Students are expected to turn in quarterly book logs (500 pages per quarter).  The book log must be properly filled out and signed by a parent/guardian in order for full points to be given.  The book log is a long term assignment.

• The monthly poem must be recited on the assigned due date.  Please check your child's poem folder for directions about this assignment.

• Long term assignments must be turned in on the assigned due date in order for points to be given.

• There are 4 book reports each year (1 per quarter).  Information about the book reports will be sent home at the beginning of each quarter.  Book reports are long term assignments and must be turned in on the assigned due date to receive points.
