Pre-Testing in the Sports Hall
Wednesday 3rd March: Year 7 in the morning and Year 9 in the afternoon
Thursday 4th March: Year 11 in the morning
Friday 5th March: Year 8 in the morning and Year 10 in the afternoon
From the 8th March we will offer pupils testing at an on-site ATS, once consent has been given. Testing and return of pupils will be phased during the first week to manage the number of pupils passing through the test site at any one time (with remote learning in place until the year group is brought back).
Students will have 3 tests in the Academy, 3 to 5 days apart. After these tests students will be given tests that they will complete at home. The DfE has given us the flexibility to consider how best to deliver testing on a phased basis from 8 March, depending on our circumstances and local arrangements, but that we should prioritise vulnerable children and children of critical workers, and year groups 10 to 13. Please note that students will be exempt from taking a test for 90 days after a previous positive test result.
Our students will then return to face-to-face education following their first negative test result. Pupils not undergoing testing should attend school in line with their return arrangements.
Testing is voluntary; however, we would encourage everyone to participate in the asymptomatic testing programme to help break transmission links by identifying those who may be carrying the virus unknowingly.
If consent is provided, pupils will be asked to self-swab at the on-site ATS and after 30 minutes they should be informed of their results.
Please note this service will not be used by anyone who is showing symptoms of Covid 19 as they must not attend the Academy.
The lateral flow tests that we use are quick and easy using a swab of your nose and throat. The Government has shared information with us from Oxford University and Public Health England, which have indicated the tests are as accurate in identifying a case as a ‘PCR test’ (99.68% specificity). The tests have lower sensitivity but are considered better at picking up cases when a person has higher viral load, hence the need to test frequently. Testing will be offered free of charge.
At the swabbing desk students will be given a swab and told how to do a swab. Those taking the test will be supervised by trained staff. For under-18s, staff can oversee the swab process.
Students are expected to be able to swab themselves.
Results take around half an hour from testing and will be shared directly with staff and parents/carers participating. The way we register students means that there may be a 1 or 2 hour delay in results being sent to parents/carers.
However, in the event of a positive test parents/carers as well as students will be informed immediately after the 30 minute processing window has finished
