HOW IS MUSIC GRADED?
HOW IS MUSIC GRADED?
Every music class, I take two active embedded assessments - one for the main focus of the day, the other for the secondary focus. I use a rubric to score what the students are doing and the final grade for the class is a scaled average of the active embedded assessments scores.
For example, if students are learning how to keep a steady beat, I will score each student in the middle of the activity - if they can keep a steady be most of the time, they score a 3. Exceptional steady beat keeping will score a 4. If they struggle some of the time, they will score a 2. If they struggle a lot or they did not participate, they score a 1. Students who consistently score 3s will earn S in grades K-2 and an A in grades 3-6.
