Given that our class utilizes a variety of assignments to help students learn the importance of developing good work habits, you may be missing assignments in the following categories in our grade book, which you can access via Parent VUE or Student VUE. While some teachers track and record student grades in Google Classroom, this class will use Synergy, which is what Parent VUE and Student VUE connect you to.
I try to keep grades up to date on a fairly regular basis, usually weekly. I do however acknowledge that at times I may fall a bit behind, especially when things get busy. If you have questions about anything you see in the gradebook that aren't answered below, please feel free to message me in Parent Square or shoot me an Email and I will get back to you ASAP.
Below are the Make Up Work policies related to each graded category in the grade book. Some types of assignments can be made up throughout the quarter, while others adhere to a strick timeline. As always, if you have questions, feel free to message in Parent Square or shoot me a quick Email.
Note: You will need to talk directly to Mr. Knapp and ask him to look at things you may have turned in late. Very often our assignments are digital and I need a heads up or reminder that I should go back to something I've already graded so I can give you credit. The easiest way to avoid this is to turn your assigned work in on time, then we never have to worry. You are responsible for making sure that you have received credit for work you turn in late.
Note: You will need to access student view to find these missing assignments. Simply click on the assignment, copy the question from the description into the appropriate form, and provide your answer just like you do at the start of class every day.
Each day, as students enter the class, there is a simple task for them to complete. They log into their chromebooks, and complete the task using the appropriate form which is available in Google Classroom. Daily task may include the following.
Question of the Day: A simple question designed to get students thinking about topics that will be covered/discussed in class.
Quote of the Day: A simple quote designed to get students thinking about topics that will be covered/discussed in class.
We complete a timecard every day in class. This simple task reinforces responsibility. A simple form is available in Google Classroom for students to access this daily task.
Note: You will need to talk directly to Mr. Knapp and ask him to look at module work you turned in late. I do not get notified when you turn knowledge checks or evidence in late. It is up to you to verify that you have received credit for late work.
Module work is accessed through our online curriculum, which can be reached at lms.paxpat.com. Each module is divided into 10 days, and each day of the module studens earn a possible 10 points. That is a total of 100 possible points for just doing the daily module work as assigned. There are two main parts to this grade, as detailed below.
Complete the required knowledge check at the end of each day. (6-7 points)
Submitt the required evidence at the end of the activity for the day. Could be questions that need answered, files that need to be completed and submitted, or a task demonstrated/shown to Mr. Knapp.
Note: You will need to talk directly to Mr. Knapp and ask him to look at module work you turned in late. I do not get notified when you turn knowledge checks or evidence in late. It is up to you to verify that you have received credit for late work.
Imbedded within our typical modlue flow (10 days) are three Checkpoint assessments. The first one comes after Day 3 and consists of 10 questions. The second, also 10 questions, comes after Day 6. These are both quizes and are worth 30 points each. The final Checkpoint comes at the end of our module rotation, it is slightly longer at 20 questions, and is worth 50 points.
In Class Task: Checkpoints are to be completed in class, during the designated time for which they are assigned. Access outside of class may result in scores being deleted and checkpoints reassigned.
Throughout the year we may have various assignments that are related to our Career Exploration topics. Typically, these assignments are are made availabe in Google Classroom and expectations and instructions can be accessed there, along with the occasional tutorial video to help students progress through the assignments. If something in the grade book is labeled an assignment, check Goggle Classroom first for additional information and resources.
Documents: Students may be asked to write a short paper, construct documents such as resumes and cover letters, or develop a digital display.
Slide Show Presentations: We may assign a slide show type presentation for students to work on during classtime. This sometimes happens in relation to our YouScience results.
Career Cluster Assignments: There are often assignments related to career cluster exploration to help students understand how we organize careers.
Measurement: There will be occasional measurement assignments to give students hands on practice using measurement instraments such as tape measures.
For this class, projects are a way for us to dive deep into a given topic. We sometimes have access to outside resources for example and may have a multi week project related to that resource. A common example of this would be when we have access to maker space resources from the ESD and students are working towards developing stickers, t-shirts, and lazer engraved projects.
Note: You will need to talk directly to Mr. Knapp and ask him for a copy of measurement work you may be missing. I will not track you down, you are responsible for getting your grade where you want it to be.
Fairly regularly, we try to help students gain additional practice with measurement. This was one of the most requested tasks from our high school CTE teachers, who view measurement as an important skill for future success. We utilize a simple worksheet that is completed at the start of a class period on a weekly to bi weekly basis. Students complete the task in class.
