My counseling philosophy and role:
Families are students first and most valuable teachers. As such, they are a very important part of a student's academic success. When families and schools work together, students are more likely to have success in school. My student focus approach to school counseling empowers students to advocate for their unique needs.I believe that schools are integral parts of our communities that support students in their path towards success. Research continues to show that our students learn best when they are physically and mentally healthy. In order to be ready to learn, students need to feel safe, accepted and have the appropriate tools to overcome obstacles.
As a school counselor I support students, teachers, and families overcome barriers and access support for their unique needs. It is my goal to support students to achieve personal and academic success. As a school counselor I am available to every student to support with a wide range of concerns such as academic, social/emotional, developmental and achievement.
With this in mind, my work may entail addressing emotional and behavioral issues that may interfere with a student’s ability to effectively learn. These services are not intended as a substitute for diagnosis or treatment of any mental health disorder, and are typically short in duration. It would be my privilege to serve as your student’s advocate in accessing the necessary resources and services to navigate the school system while collaborating with teachers, administrators, and other educational staff.
