I was born and raised in the Nampa/Caldwell area, graduating from Vallivue High School. I attended Boise State and graduated from The University of Idaho. My teaching career began in Rupert, Idaho before moving back to my hometown area in Idaho. I taught for two years in the Nampa School District before marrying Jack Robertson. I moved to his hometown area, Vale and Willowcreek, and began teaching in the Ontario School District in 1982, where I retired after 34 years of teaching.
Jack was always involved with cattle ranching, and he became Manager for Producers Livestock Association, while we raised our four boys, Andy, Levi, Cody and Matt. They attended Willowcreek Elementary, two boys at Vale Elementary, two boys at Vale Middle School and all graduated from Vale High School. Vale has been a wonderful place to raise our family.
I retired from teaching in 2013, but have never felt I was ready to be away from the classroom and kids completely. Dr. McBride hired me in 2015 to teach in the 3th/4th grade position at Willowcreek where I thoroughly enjoyed becoming part of the Willowcreek/Vale Elementary community. I again retired (before COVID hit), and spent quality time with Jack before he passed in 2021 from a life-long battle with Type I diabetes and heart disease.
Tending to grandkids (which I hope there will be more of) teaching, and traveling are three of my continuing life's passions. Travel has taken me on wonderful trips, including Hawaii, Alaska, New England states, Florida, Mexico, Amsterdam, Paris, and Norway. Several highlights of those trips include dog sledding on an Alaskan glacier, viewing fall colors in the New England states, seeing the Eiffel Tower, shelling on Sanibel Island and cruising through the fjords of Norway.
I'm often asked why I continue to teach. I tell them it's about the joy I feel with students and watching their growth. When I'm in the classroom, I'm totally dedicated to helping students enjoy school and feel successful. I am so fortunate to have a career that I absolutely love. I wish that for all of my students.
