This site is a resource for teachers who are looking for student research tools.
All resources are free, although some websites offer upgrades for a fee.
The site is divided into the following pages:
Each search engine description also contains information about which grade level(s) it is appropriate for. The search engines for younger students contain safe search features, and many of the search engines for older students are add-free.
It is sometimes difficult for students to understand which information is real, and which information is fake news. The fact checking resources on this page can help with that! There is also a link for teachers that contains lesson plans on fact checking. Please note that these websites are not made for children, so the content is not filtered. They are mainly appropriate for middle school and high school students.
The tools in this section help students take notes, organize their research, and collaborate digitally. All of the websites and apps listed may be used for note taking, but some lend themselves towards collaboration more than others. Many of the sites require students to be 13 years of age or older, but please check your school district's technology agreement. (Sometimes younger students may use these sites with parent permission.)
The websites in this section help students create a bibliography, and cite sources within text.
On this page, I take a closer look at the website Hypothes.is, which is a Chrome extension that allows users to highlight, add annotations, and have discussions on websites.
