The ASDAN International Award Program (IAP) course at UWCT allows students to develop skills and strengthen social emotional intelligence through a structure of personal challenges.
The course aims to;
Recognise personal qualities and abilities
Allow students greater choice in topics they wish to study
Encourage exploration of new activities and growth in confidence
Develop invaluable skills for entering the work-place and living independently
Accredit hours of work and study both in and out of school.
Students complete varying hours of challenges over a two year period.
A number of modules, such as community, environment and belief and values, are selected and set by the teacher of the course while others are chosen by the students themselves to ensure everyone is studying areas of interest and developing skills they feel are important to them.
Students will attend 3 taught lessons per week over the two year course and be expected to complete at least one additional hour of self study.
Completing the International Award Gold can be used in place of one of the 4 IB Standard Level or Higher Level courses that are required to be eligible for a UWC Thailand High School Diploma.
Student completes at least 60 hours of challenges plus three reflections and a personal statement
Student completes at least 120 hours of challenges, plus six reflections and a personal statement
(Silver Challenge offers a modified course but can not lead directly onto Gold)
After completing Silver Award, students will complete International Award - Gold. They would complete a further 60 hours of study at least .
Typically all students would achieve Bronze and Silver Awards the first year gaining a level one equivalent qualification. This may vary based on the individual and time given to the course.
Students would then be enrolled in International Award - Gold, completing additional hours to gain certification which is an internationally recognised Level 2 equivalent qualification.
Excitingly, UWC Thailand are in the final stages of adding Level 3 qualifications to this program - watch this space!
The International Award Gold includes:
A Minimum of 18 Modules.
Additional short courses can earn credits and may be used in place of some modules. Students can select and take up to two additional short courses. (Mathematics is strongly recommended if IB maths is not being taken and higher education is the goal).

IAP allows students to study a wide range of modules that suit their interests. This means students can accredit time spent outside the classroom practising their passions and put these hours towards school certification.
The vocational style of learning helps student develop life skills needed to be successful in the world of work. Students will enhance their planning and organisation skills, boost their ability in leadership, team work and communication and further develop problem solving skills. These skills are vital in the workplace and would support students to secure careers in the future or even start businesses of their own.
