PERMISSION TO CONDUCT RESEARCH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF THE WESTERN CAPE

Who needs to apply? if you intend to use staff and/or student data as part of your research, or if you intend to distribute research surveys or questionnaires to students and/or staff then you will need to apply for permission. In these cases you would be applying or applied for ethics clearance/approval and then been directed to apply for permission.

You are a UWC staff member or student and you want to:

use institutional, staff and/or student data as part of your research
collect data from UWC colleagues, students or fellow students using, for example questionnaires or interviews

You are not a UWC staff member or student and you want to:

use UWC institutional, staff and/or student data as part of your research
collect data from UWC staff members and/or students using, for example, questionnaires or interviews

Before completing the application form below ensure that you have the following documents ready for upload:

Research Proposal (outline of your research, highlighting aims, methodology and expected outcomes)
Ethics approval letter or ethics application form (from institution at which applicant is registered at or conducting research from)

Please note that this is not an application to the Ethics Committee for ethics approval, but an application to the Registrar to conduct research at UWC once ethics approval has been granted.

THIS PERMISSION REQUEST IS NOT OPEN TO STUDENTS CONDUCTING HONOURS OR POSTGRADUATE DEGREE RESEARCH STUDIES

UWC Honours students must request permission via their Heads of Department.

Non- UWC Honours students may not apply for permission as studies at honours level will not be approved.
