Steering Committee Member of a global research network, Collaboration for Research on Democracy (CORD). In this capacity I recently won a grant from the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS) to host an international workshop in Cape Town on the Moral Economy of Protest. As part of the grant we will facilitate the development of early career academics by inviting five PhD students to present their work and potentially publish in an edited journal.
Committee Member, South African Cities Research Network. As a member of this committee I was responsible for UWC hosting a PhD workshop for 20 students from six universities in South Africa in March 2018.
Steering Committee Member and current strategic driver of the Collaborative Programme in Applied Learning for Civil Society Practice (Civics Programme). The Civics Programme is a collaboration between academia and civil society organisations in Cape Town aimed at facilitating new forms of applied learning for students and practitioners about civil society practice to advance development and build democratic citizenship. Through this collaboration I have started new field site visits and research opportunities for Honours students in Political Studies.

Member of the Good Governance Learning Network, South Africa. I annually review and edit publications for this network. When opportunities arise I facilitate our students' involvement in this Network.
I am actively engaged in disseminating research findings to the wider community through current news outlets. I have published articles in the Daily Maverick, The Conversation and on News24.
The article 'Cape Town's taxi violence is rooted in attempts to govern competition' was read over 32 000 times.
I have spoken on radio shows about current research. In May 2019 I was invited for a 30 minute interview on 702 Cape Talk to discuss research on 'How cities can approach redesigning informal settlements after disasters'.
In 2018 I was invited to sit on a specialist advisory board looking at designing policy interventions for COGTA in regard public participation at the local government sphere. This is a three year commitment which involves 6 two-day meetings a year. The outputs will include interventions in the green and white papers on public participation.
I am part of a collaborative UWC-University West (Sweden) teaching programme. I have been invited to Sweden for collaborative workshops in 2017 and in 2019 I will be a visiting lecturer, teaching a post-graduate module in Sweden in the 2nd semester. As part of this programme I am spearheading a WIL module. I presented on WIL at a Swedish-South African workshop in May 2019.
