The Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture (DSAC) offers a Language Bursary to students studying at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). The aim of the bursary is to promote study in the following language and language-related areas:
African Socio-Linguistics
Applied and Theoretical Linguistics
Applied Literary Studies
Copy Editing
Forensic Linguistics
Human Language Technologies
Interpreting
Language Component/Theories
Language Education
Language in Education
Language Planning
Lexicography
South African Sign Language
South African Official Language(s)
Terminology Development and Management
Translation and Editing
The bursary is offered to undergraduate students (at third and/or final year) and postgraduate students (at Honours and Masters level). Please click on the links to read about the specific requirements for each.
Please note: the bursary is only available to South African citizens.
The bursary is not available to dependents of UWC staff (such as children or spouses).
For undergraduate students, the bursary covers a portion of tuition fees for language and language-related modules, as well as prescribed books.
For postgraduate students, the bursary covers a portion of registration fees, tuition fees, and prescribed books.
The bursary does not cover accommodation, travel, food, study materials (such as laptops) etc.
Please note: should you be successful, the bursary will be paid into your student account and not into your personal bank account.
