The theme presented in this project is understanding and accepting one’s own bisexuality. In it, clients may aim to explore the feelings that come with bisexual awakening & exploration, both positive and negative, and how to interpret and/or normalize these feelings within themselves. Creativity has been proven to be one of the most important resources for self understanding; art of any kind is what drives human expression, which can easily be taken advantage of in a counseling setting. The collection of prompts in this activity worksheet are of a purely introspective nature, attempting to tackle feelings of the self, as well as the opinions of others which may influence these feelings. Not only will the prompts force clients to look inward and learn to understand and conceptualize their own thoughts and feelings into something tangible, but they will also help counselors to view said conceptualizations in a concrete way, giving them a chance to view & discuss them alongside the client.
The main article used to aid in the develop this project was “Bisexuality/Plurisexuality in Romantic Relationships: Making Space for Bisexuality/Plurisexuality?” by Emiel Maliepaard. This article, which consists mostly of dissections of interviews with bisexual individuals, summarizes many of the stereotypes linked to bisexuality, the fears/negative feelings associated with accepting one’s own bisexuality & divulging it to others, and the actions that are often taken by people to avoid the unpleasantries commonly associated with it.
