The TIQM journal club is a student-run organization meeting weekly to discuss recent results in quantum matter.

The journal club is a forum for graduate students and postdocs, in both theory and experiment, to exchange ideas on a broad range of topics relevant to their research.

Giving talks allows students to gain experience preparing long-form technical presentations, fielding questions, and becoming comfortable with oral communication.

Spring Quarter Schedule

We will be having CMJC this Friday, April 19th at 4pm, in the TIQM room (B421). Eric Anderson will present:

Anyons: View from the Wavefunction

Unlike in our more familiar 3+1 dimensions, where particles obey either fermionic or bosonic statistics, particles in 2+1 dimensions can have fractional exchange statistics - anyons. Much of the interest in fractional quantum Hall systems is in their ability to host anyonic quasiparticle excitations. Here, I will work through the mathematical treatment of Landau level formation, and show how fractional charge and exchange statistics can be understood through the Laughlin wavefunction.
