High HIV incidence among young women in Africa highlights the need for urgent implementation of proven female-controlled HIV prevention intervention. PrIYA is an implementation program to integrate oral pre- exposure antiretroviral prophylaxis (PrEP) delivery in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and Family Planning (FP) clinics and evaluate how to efficiently reach women who might benefit from PrEP.
We aim to integrate PrEP at scale as part of routine HIV prevention services in public sector MCH and FP clinics in Kisumu County, demonstrating suitable and cost-effective delivery models that efficiently reach women at substantial HIV risk. Finally, the program seeks to define best practices and built healthcare workers' capacity for PrEP delivery; laying the foundation for county and national government wide-scale PrEP implementation in other MCH and FP clinics in Kenya to ensure program sustainability.
