Welcome to the Mortality Methods in Health Metrics Workshop!
Mortality is one of the key indicators to measure progress at national and subnational levels. National strategies and international health agencies emphasize the importance of mortality data and estimates as essential functions of health systems, policy, and research priorities. The purpose of this training is to give clear understanding of the methods and data sources used to estimate mortality rates in GBD study comparing with those used in Pakistan by national health agencies and statistical offices. The workshop will provide an overview of mortality estimation methods used in the GBD including a deep dive into unique challenges of estimating mortality in Pakistan. In addition, this workshop will provide opportunities for discussion about mortality policy and research priorities in Pakistan and practical exercises about using mortality evidence to support decision-making about health system strengthening and policy action at national and subnational levels.
