NEW! Together, We Sing: Teaching and Learning Goals
Goals for Singing Ensembles and Leaders
Pathways for learning to sing, learning to be expressive, and building musical skills are described in twelve areas of importance which highlight vocal sound, the engagement of the body, building artistic expression, and developing musical skills.
The vocal concepts and pathways are built to focus on our voice as a diverse and flexible instrument and apply to all styles and traditions of singing!
The artistic and musical skill concepts promote skills that are important in aural traditions as well as music reading.
Teachers are challenged to assess how their individual students are growing within the whole of the choir. At adjudication, we often hear from judges who contradict each other, or who do not understand what our choir needs. Together, We Sing solves these issues by making singing and learning goals created and shared between students, teachers, and adjudicators so that everyone is evaluating the same things!
Instructions for use in both Assessment and Adjudication are included on the Assessment form.
As competition judges listen with the Together, We Sing chart, the judges listen objectively using the goals rather than personal preference. Scores are much more accurate and similar when a panel uses the chart.
