Gallaxy Challenge is a live, interactive event, played by teams of 4-6 players with a game host. There are two parts to the escape room game experience:
Gameplay (45-60 minutes): Escape room game facilitated by a game host.
Debrief (15-30 minutes): Post-game discussion and activities (this is where the learning magic happens!)

Galaxy Challenge was designed to explore how persuasive messaging, social influence, and human biases shape the way information spreads online--including in fandom communities. In the game, you encountered compelling claims, data visualizations, social reactions, and a deepfake video about a Planet5 band member. Each element illustrates how information can feel credible, especially when it aligns with emotions, time pressure, or group dynamics. By the end, you experienced how easily misinformation can spread, and how difficult it can be to fully correct once it gains momentum.

Requirements
Game host: The game host starts the game, provides hints and encouragement, and facilitates the post-game debrief discussion. Game hosts should become familiar with the game beforehand.
Recommended scheduled time: 75-90 minutes. To allow 5 minutes to introduce the game, 45-55 minutes for gameplay, and 15+ minutes for the debrief discussion.
Web browser: Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.
Device: Computer/laptop/tablet (mobile devices not supported). Players should be able to view two windows simultaneously -- the video conferencing application and the game.
Video conference software: Zoom, Microsoft Teams or other video conferencing software.

Short version
The GALAXY Escape Room puts players in the middle of a high-pressure fan campaign. With rumors spreading and the clock ticking, teams must piece together clues, evaluate what they find, and decide what deserves to be shared.

You’ve just become a new fan and a friend is passing along lots of information about the mistreatment of your favorite band member, and with a new fan campaign to protest launching in less than an hour, you have to track down whatever information you can to uncover the truth and spread the word!
