Who should apply?

  • High school, undergraduate, graduate, or post-bacc students interested in becoming a physician

  • If you are under age 18 we will ask for parent contact information and require a parent be included in at least the first mentoring meeting

  • Underrepresented minority groups in medicine: Hispanic/Latinx, Black/African-American, Vietnamese, Hmong, Filipino, Native-Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, Alaskan Native, Native-American

  • Alaskan residents

Aim: To increase diversity in the Alaskan medical community

We understand that our applicants come from different backgrounds, grade levels, study interests, and life experiences and we will take all aspects of your application into consideration when pairing you with a mentor.

What is the time commitment?

This is something that you will ultimately work with your mentor to determine, but we suggest 2 hours a month.

Where does the program take place?

Due to COVID-19, all meetings, including mentor-mentee meetings, will take place over Zoom.

Who runs the AK WWAMI Diversity Mentorship Program?

We are a student-led organization at University of Washington School of Medicine - Alaska Site. Our mentors are community physicians who enjoy engaging with students and are committed to community outreach.
