World Logic Day(s) is a series of events organized in Poland as a part of World Logic Day, celebrated every year around January, 14. (see: https://www.unesco.org/en/days/world-logic).
The tradition of logical investigation in Poland is long-lasting and impressive. Logic has been practiced in Poland since the 14th century when the University in Krakow was founded. Six centuries later, in the 1920s and 1930s, the Warsaw School of Logic, founded by Jan Łukasiewicz, Stanisław Leśniewski, Alfred Tarski, and their followers, became a world-famous logical center. For the coryphaei of this school, mathematical logic was both an independent, perspective area of research and a necessary element of education. The importance of logic as the Polish specialty was emphasized in a saying: "Italians have "bel canto", Poles have logic". The value of teaching logic was justified by the conviction that logic is the morality of thought.
Still now, logical investigations in Poland are diversified and vital. World Logic Day(s) in 2024 is aimed to present this diversity and vitality.
World Logic Day(s) in Poland 2024 will be composed of:
lecture on liar paradox ("Liar" in the Lvov-Warsaw School) by Prof. Jacek Jadacki and plaque unveiling ceremony in Jan Łukasiewicz's room at Faculty of Philosophy, University of Warsaw (January 12, 2023, 1 pm), in Polish.
the international symposium "Logic, Language, and Cognition: Kazimierz Ajdukiewicz" (January 12-13, 2024),
the panel discussion "How to teach logic?" - aimed to discuss the program, tools, and perspectives of teaching logic in Poland (January 14, morning),
the ceremony of presenting the Jan Łukasiewicz Award for best Polish monograph in 2022-2023 (January 14, afternoon),
the session "Logical Investigations in Poland" - aimed to present the current investigations in Logic in various Polish academic centers (January 15).
All events are organized in hybrid or fully online form and will be accessible by ZOOM.
