Chick Chain Poultry Show & Auction
The annual Chick Chain Poultry Show and Auction brought together young poultry enthusiasts, families and the local community in a lively event that showcased the dedication and hard work of the youth involved in poultry farming. Held at the UT/TSU Extension office, this event not only displayed poultry but also shows the importance of youth development in agriculture.
This event is a beloved tradition in our community, where 4-Hers, in grades 4-12, raise and care for a small flock of chickens as part of the program. The even culminated in a live auction where the youth sale their poultry to local bidders.
These 4-Her’s chick chain journey starts with two day old chicks and involves months of dedication to the care. Which instills valuable life skills such as responsibility, time management, entrepreneurship. Participants learn about poultry nutrition, bio security, and the economics of raising and selling chickens or eggs. Moreover, the experience fosters and understanding of animal husbandry and agriculture, which can lead to careers in agriculture.
The the 2024 Chick Chain program will begin in February. Be on the look out to sing up opportunities.
