A brief history
A brief history
The UT Houston child protection team was conceptualized in 2005 by Dr. Rebecca Girardet in order to service hospital child maltreatment victims and provide outpatient clinical services to high risk families. What started out as a small team has evolved into the Division of Child Safety and Integrated Care. The fellowship program started in 2009 and was accredited by the ACGME in 2012.
The Division provides comprehensive medical and psychosocial services to child maltreatment victims, children living in foster care and children living in a high risk social and/or physical environment. The Division also serves children whose complex medical and/or psychosocial needs benefit from additional services that are less readily available in traditional clinics. Our program emphasizes evidence-based clinical practice, research, and education of future providers.

The Division provides inpatient consultations for suspected child abuse and neglect and comprehensive outpatient services for child maltreatment victims as well as for families at risk; and serve children and adolescents with medical issues complicated by emotional and behavioral challenges.
