Personal Interests

Outside of research, I enjoy reading, calisthenics, comedy, and hiking. I also play the piano and handpan for personal enjoyment. I live by the motto: 'What I am is God’s gift; what I become is my gift to God.'

My Chinese name is 柳 (Liǔ, Liu3) 星雯 (Xīngwén, Xing1wen2). Literally translated, it means “Willow tree” (family name), “Star & Cloud” (given name).  I go by Winry because “Xīng” can be tricky to pronounce—even for me, since I’m from southern China. A fun fact: I only discovered Fullmetal Alchemist long after choosing this name, but I loved Winry’s personality so much that I’ve decided to fully own it. ;)
