The TJOGEL Society is designed to expose first-year law students to the energy legal community so that they can explore the various career paths and academic issues related to the energy practice. The Society helps law students with an identified interest in energy and corporate law target specific career paths and industry practitioners who can help them jump-start a future career without the added obligations of editing requirements.

Roundtable Luncheons

Multiple times a month in the fall, sponsor law firms join TJOGEL Society members for lunch to discuss their practice, how to find the right job and firm, and how to succeed as a young attorney. Sponsor firms include many top firms.

Networking Events

The Journal hosts several happy hours each year in Austin and other major Texas cities. The happy hours serve as a valuable networking opportunity for students and industry professionals.

Career Panels

The Journal hosts a fall career panels each year. We invite attorneys and industry professionals to speak to students about how to best position themselves to take advantage of career opportunities within the energy industry.


Mentor Program

The Mentor Program provides an excellent opportunity for 1L Society members to get one on one mentorship with 2L or 3L TJOGEL member.

Symposium

Each spring, TJOGEL hosts its annual Energy Law Symposium. Leaders of the energy industry come in and discuss the state of the industry, recent developments, and specific topics affecting the industry.

Spring Banquet

Following the two day Symposium, there is a banquet of TJOGEL's sponsors and speakers that allow TJOGEL members to connect with sponsor firms and

Taco Tuesdays

Members get to enjoy weekly breakfast tacos every Tuesday morning.

Members set themselves up for success by gaining access to the rich TJOGEL outline database.


Who we are

As a Society Member, you will be primarily interacting with the Society Director, Lyle Paul, the Managing Editor, Bradley Potts, and the Editor-in-Chief, Katherine Harclerode.

Lyle is a 2L and spent his past summer at Kirkland & Ellis. He graduated from the University of Texas in 2020 with a degree in Classics.

Bradley Potts, the Managing Editor, is a 3L and spent his past summer with Haynes and Boone. He is also an Associate Editor of the Texas Law Review. He graduated from Southern Methodist University in 2019 with degrees in Business Management from the Cox School of Business and Political Science from the Dedman College of Humanities & Sciences.

Katherine Harclerode, the Editor-in-Chief, is a 3L and spent her past summer with Vinson & Elkins and Arnold & Itkin. She graduated from the University of Texas in 2019 with a degree in the Business Honors Program from the McCombs School of Business and completed the Supply Chain Management Program at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
