I am Ou Z. Labun (other used name: Ou Zhang), a research associate in the Center of High Energy Density Science, Department of Physics, University of Texas at Austin. I am an Air Force Office of Scientific Research Young Investigator for Laser Wakefield Accelerator development and I lead a Department of Energy/ National Nuclear Security Administration research grant on high energy density physics experiments. I study particle sources generation from plasmas interacting with high intensity lasers.
I got my PhD in nuclear physics from the Department of Physics, University of Arizona in 2016. I was a postdoctoral scholar in the University of Texas at Austin from 2017 to 2023. Before I moved to United States, I attended Peking University for college.
I grew up in Beijing, China. In my spare time, I enjoy endurance exercises such as marathons and Ironman distance triathlons. In 2022, I qualified for half-marathon XTERRA Planet Trail Run World Championship (Hooray!). I am also a mother of two, and a practitioner of Chinese calligraphy.
