Objective 1: Increase the academic performance and preparation for postsecondary education of GEAR UP students.
Each year, increase by 15%, 17%, 20% over the baseline of 31%, 36%, and 37% the number of cohort (7th–12th grade) low-income, minority, EL, etc., passing the state standard test in Math, Science, and Reading, respectively.
Each year, increase by 10% over baseline of 14% (5,149) the number of cohort students (9th – 12th grade) who enroll in and receive credit from AP, Dual or Concurrent Enrollment courses (Math, Reading, etc.), as measured by state (TAPR) course enrollment data.
70% of GEAR UP students will pass Algebra I or its equivalent by the end of 9th grade, over baseline of 45%, as measured by STAAR-EOC data.
Each year, 85% of teachers receiving professional development in instructional strategies (pedagogy) will report improvement in teaching, as measured by self-assessment tools.
Objective 2: Increase rate of high school graduation, awareness, and participation in postsecondary education for GEAR UP students through a school and college network.
Each year, 95% of students will be promoted to the next grade level to be on track to graduate on-time, as measured by state (TAPR) advancement data.
95% of cohort students will complete the SAT or ACT by the end of 11th grade to be on track to apply for college, as measured by college assessment instrument.
90% of GEAR UP students will graduate from high school, as defined by Texas accountability system (GEAR UP schools are at 80%). (GPRA 2)
Increase the number of graduates meeting TSI–college and career/military readiness to 73%, 70% in College (Reading/Math) and 75% in Military from the baseline of 44%, 38%, and 48%, respectively.
Objective 3: Increase GEAR UP students’ education expectations and students’ and their families’ knowledge of postsecondary education, options, preparation, and financing.
100% of GEAR UP students will complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid before the end of 12th grade, as measured by a completed application on file. (GPRA 3)
75% of GEAR UP (and former GEAR UP) students will enroll at an IHE, as measured by postsecondary enrollment data (National Clearinghouse data and other IHE reports). * Target schools are at an aggregate low 41%. (GPRA 4)
Of the total GEAR UP (and former GEAR UP) students enrolled at an IHE, 70% will persist to the second year of postsecondary education at the initial or subsequent IHE, as measured by college enrollment data. (GPRA 5)
65% of the students enrolled in postsecondary education will be placed in College-level Math and 78% in English without need of remedial courses, as measured by college enrollment data. *Baseline 41% were in remedial Math/English.
Objective 4: Increase students’/parents’ knowledge and skills, regarding work-based learning experiences, STEM, remote learning, use of technology, and mental health services to create a pathway toward increasing their competencies and aptitudes.
55% of high school (9th – 12th grade) students with an annual 5% growth will earn a recognized in-demand industry certification or postsecondary credential(s) and increase work-based learning skills, as measured by state and course enrollment data.
75% of high school (9th – 12th grade) students with an annual 5% growth will master key prerequisites (e.g., Algebra I) and increase critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, as measured by course data/self- assessment tools.
65% of students with an annual 8% growth will engage and earn certificates or credit in STEM, technology, AP, early college, dual-enrollment and remote online coursework (including rural areas), as measured by course enrollment data/self-assessment tools.
65% of students and parents with an annual 10% growth will increase awareness, knowledge and services available regarding mental health support, crisis interventions, mentoring, tutoring, etc., to ensure graduation from high school and enrollment in an IHE, as measured by course enrollment data/self-assessment tools.
