The 1st wave began with increasing opioid prescriptions in the 1990s.
The 2nd wave began with increased heroin usage in 2010.
The 3rd wave began with the introduction of synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl, in 2013.
The COVID-19 pandemic led to a widespread surge in drug overdose deaths. According to CDC, there was a record high of 93,000+ overdose deaths in 2020.
Texas was in the moderate range with an increase from 20.1% to 40%.
Curbing the opioid epidemic requires a multidisciplinary approach.
Our goal is to spread awareness & educate by providing timely information on policies & legal changes related to the epidemic. Additionally, we hope to provide helpful resources so individuals can be more proactive & contribute to change in their own communities.
