Farm-to-Freedom
Farm-to-Freedom, by Roy Vu, examines how Vietnamese immigrants and Vietnamese Americans in Texas use home gardens as more than just sources of food. These gardens are deeply intertwined with identity, memory, belonging, and agency. Through cultivating plants, growing familiar food, maintaining recipes, and caring for these home gardens, people craft what Roy Vũ calls “emancipatory foodways” — ways of food production and consumption that help heal the trauma of war and exile, preserve cultural heritage, and anchor people in new places.
