Global warming is a type of climate change which heats up the entire world. This happens because the Earth has a layer of gas around it called the “Ozone layer” (it helps protect us from the sun’s harsh UV light allowing only a good amount of light to pass through) is getting depleted.

The Ozone layer helps contain the greenhouse gases (Water vapour (H2O), Carbon dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), Nitrous oxide (N2O), Ozone (O3), Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and Hydrofluorocarbons (includes HCFCs and HFCs)) inside the Earth’s atmosphere and these gases have existed before even mankind came around.

In today’s world, after discovering fossil fuels we have increased the numbers of gases released into the air, which then increase the temperature of Earth.

The global average surface temperature rose 0.6 to 0.9 degrees Celsius between 1906 and 2005, and the rate of temperature increase has nearly doubled in the last 50 years. Temperatures are certain to go up further if we continue like this. This is due to the amount of carbon footprint created by everyone.

Carbon Footprint

A carbon footprint is historically defined as the total greenhouse gas emissions caused by an individual, event, organization or product, expressed as carbon dioxide equivalent.

Cause and Effect

Global Warming isn't something which happens at a specific place and time. It has multiple effects, all which has already started. The effects of Global Warming is called Climate Change.

Global warming began around the late 1800s when humans found coal and other fossil fuels. Ever since then we started using them everywhere and that too in large amounts. This then caused a disturbance in the amounts of Co2 released into our atmosphere. Co2 is a greenhouse gas which stops the heat from leaving our planet.

Before we started using fossil fuels, there was a well-balanced amount of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. Then there was an increase in the amount of Co2 (after using coal) which since then has increased the global temperature as well.

Nowadays we use fossil fuels everywhere, significantly in aeroplanes. The air travelling group is also responsible for a growing share of global emissions. Fossil fuels aren't the only reason why global warming exists.

Meat and dairy production also causes Global warming because they cause emissions. While fossil fuels emit Co2, production of meat and dairy emits Methane and Nitrous oxide. Both of which are also greenhouse gases, so the more we eat meat or non-vegan products the more these gases get released into the air and the warmer our planet gets.

Humans also use a lot of plastic which needs tons of resources and time to create. Humans have then misused it. We will be rueful later if we don’t act now. It isn’t inscrutable, instead is very clear, if we do not act now we are going to be extinct. Some of Global Warming’s effects are: wildfires, rise in water level due to melting glaciers and icecaps, droughts, heat waves etc.
