Most of the students in Math 1040 are nursing, criminal justice, and psychology majors. It is critical that these majors understand statistics by applying the classroom knowledge to their future careers. Currently, most of the students are not realizing the importance of the Math 1040 course and its connection to their respective majors. Instead they treat this course as one of the GE checklist. This SoTL project would stress the importance of the Math 1040 (GE course) and understand the connection to student’s major study and how statistics contribute to future real-life applications. The primary objective is to foster students thinking by creating an experience where students choose a mini research project were the area of interest is aligned with their major.
