Provide students the opportunity to engage and immerse themselves in the rich, diverse, and complicated history of the United States. This course focuses on the first half of American history up to 1877. Students will complete the second half of US history in 11th grade with US History II.
Students will start with an examination of America's indigenous inhabitants, they will also learn of early European colonization, the American Revolution, the creation of the US government and Constitution, Westward Expansion, Slavery, the Civil War and Reconstruction.
This course is exciting because it lays the foundation of understanding how our country has grown to become what it is today. Understanding the key ideals that founded our nation and analyzing how well we as a nation live up to those ideals throughout our story is paramount to understanding our current and future society, government, and politics.
