This class is Bill Nye APPROVED! (Don't mind the shock on his face, he's actually excited)
I am so excited to have you in my class, there are some awesome things you'll get to learn about! These are also called our Essential Standards:
Students will understand that an ecosystem can sustain relatively stable numbers and types of organisms. A stable ecosystem is capable of recovering from moderate biological and physical changes.
Students will be able to identify the structure and function of a cell, determine the cell’s role in an organism and that it can accomplish essential life processes. Students will also understand that macromolecules in a cell function to carry out important reactions that allow cycling of matter and flow of energy within and between organisms.
Students will explain how information is passed from parent to offspring through deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules in the form of chromosomes and that the variation and distribution of traits observed in a population depend on both genetic and environmental factors.
Students will describe that natural selection is the result of environmental factors selecting for and against genetic traits. Traits that allow an individual to survive and reproduce are likely to increase in the next generation, causing the proportions of specific traits to change within a population.
As you work through this class, if you run into problems, troubles, or tribulations, here are a few suggestions!
Send me an email: I check my email several times per day and try to respond with an hour or two on Monday-Friday. If you tell me the lesson you are on and where you are stuck, I am happy to make you a video tutorial. My email is tlewis@utahonline.org. I get messages copied over to my email as well from SIS so if you send one in there I will get that as well.
Text me: I almost always have my phone on me and am happy to answer questions by text. If you would rather call that is okay too, if I don't answer just leave a voicemail with your first and last name, and what you are calling about, and I will respond ASAP! My number is (435) 574-9054.
Online Classroom: I have a Webex classroom that I can meet with you online to help explain concepts, send me an email to set up a meeting or sign up for a tutoring session through utahonline.org.
