WELCOME TO GUITAR 2

My name is Mrs. Heikkila, and I am your Guitar 2 teacher. Many of you took the Guitar 1 course and I am thrilled you want to continue your learning. I am so excited to get to know those of you who are new this semester. I have a great love for teaching music--I am passionate about it!

My website will be very valuable for you to reference throughout the semester. Click on the address and bookmark it on your computer so that you can visit it often.

Please visit my website and click on the Guitar 2 course tab and review through the course buttons to find additional information about the class. The buttons will review the keys to success in the course, curriculum objectives, course pacing, and any additional resources that will be included in the course.

DUE DATES & LATE ASSIGNMENTS

I have included due dates for all of your assignments in the class. You need to stick to these dates as much as possible to stay on track. Go to the pacing tab for the progress/pacing guide for the semester. I will put in zeros for all late assignments on Wednesdays when I update grades in PowerSchool. This is to show you your grade with pacing taking into account. Once you turn in those assignments, your zeros will be replaced with your score. Please do your best to stay on track as it creates less work for both of us!

This class is so much fun, but your progress is up to YOU. If you practice and go through the course consistently, you will be able to play some fun tunes and even have some ways to create your own songs.

YOU WILL BE USING TWO WEBSITES FOR THIS COURSE.

  1. Canvas (utahonline.instructure.com) This is where you will get your information on how to log in to the website (Consonus) that contains all of your lessons. You will also be able to upload your 3 videos for the course in Canvas. You can see your grades in Canvas.

  2. Consonus (cmilearn.org) This website is what you will use to go through all of your GUITAR LESSONS.

  3. You will no longer use Edgenuity for any of your coursework for Guitar.

STUDENT HANDBOOK

Here is the link to our Student Handbook. It contains our school policies and important information for students.

COURSE EXPECTATIONS: Listed below are expectations for the course:

  1. Please log onto CANVAS regularly and complete your coursework on time. You should be working between 15 - 30 minutes per school day to stay on pace in the course. This is the first key to student success. Start logging on now to create good practice and learning habits. KEEPING ON PACE DAILY IS KEY!

  1. Online communication is a must. If you have any questions about the course, please call or email me at lheikkila@utahonline.org. If you would like to set up a time to meet in my online classroom, please contact me.

  • You will be able to see your GRADE in Canvas. It will be updated every Friday.

  • If the due date has passed for your videos, your grade will be a 0 for that assignment until you have turned them in. If you are behind the progress schedule in your lessons, your progress grade IN POWER SCHOOL will not show 100% but will change as you catch up to the progress schedule.

  • YOUR PROGRESS and GRADE IN EDGENUITY IS NOT CORRECT. Ignore it.

  • Here is how you will be graded in this course:

  • Your grade is determined by your progress through the cmilearn.org course. You must complete 100% of each of the lessons UP THROUGH LESSON 23.

  • Your grade is also determined by 3 videos that you record yourself playing. I need to see your face, your guitar and your hands in the video so I can verify that it is you playing! The videos demonstrate that you have been going through the course and have been practicing.

1 - 50% of your grade is determined by completion of the cmilearn.org course.

2 - 50% of your grade is determined by the grades you receive on the three videos you submit.

(See the due dates for the videos in the progress/pacing schedule)
