I know we are going to have a great time together! I have included a few "tips" on how to be successful in my class below. Please review them, especially tip #1 BEFORE you begin working on your course!
1. PUT IN ENOUGH SEAT TIME.
Most students who struggle with my class (probably 90%) simply do not put in enough seat time! Online classes, especially any Language Arts courses, require just as much time as you would put into a regular class (3-4 hours per week). If you do not put in the time you will quickly fall behind. This course was designed to be completed over the span of 16 weeks NOT a few days, and therefore will be nearly impossible to complete if put off till the last minute.
2. If you are not satisfied with your grade on a particular assignment or project, DO NOT MOVE ON!
Please reach out and ask for help! I am always willing to listen. If you want a retake/redo on an assignment or quiz please fill out THIS form.
3. Likewise, if you’re stuck on an assignment SKIP IT and return back to it later.
Preferably, you’d reach out for help first. However, if you feel crunched for time or that you don’t have the willpower for that particular assignment but want to work, skip it! That’s okay! Simply type in the Edgenuity textbox that you would like to skip the assignment for now and come back to it later. KEEP IN MIND YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO UNTIL COMPLETED. When you’re ready to tackle the missed assignment simply fill out the Redo/Regrade form to have it reset and/or turned in.
4. Work a little bit extra these first 2-3 weeks.
Work on the weekends or at night for an extra hour or two at first, and you will be amazed at how easy it is to stay caught up later. Waiting until the last minute, on the other hand, will only make you feel overwhelmed, and will provide less time for retakes or extra help.
5. Use the resources found on the class website & the Unit Overviews
My class website is FULL of resources to help with both the reading and writing assignments found in my course. Please feel free to use those resources as often and whenever you’d like. Also, with each unit you’ll gain a Unit Overview which is FULL of resources to help you be successful in that unit, please use it often.
6. READ MY EMAILS AND MESSAGES!!!
I will send you helpful emails biweekly. If you decide not to read it that day you can always catch up by checking the class website as they will be linked there. You will want to pay attention to important dates to know, or helpful tips found only in the biweekly emails.
7. Finally, please know I am here to help YOU. So please email/text with any questions or concerns.
Call/text me at 435-817-9883 or email me at landerson@utahonline.org. You are free to email/text me at any time and I will respond as soon as I can.
Please remember, that one of the great things about UOS is you are free to work when you can but that does not mean YOU and I are working at the same time.
My office hours are between 8am - 5 pm Monday through Friday. If I receive a message outside of those hours I will contact you as quickly as I can during the following office hours.
