Strand 1: Speaking and Listening (11–12.SL)

Strand 2: Reading (11–12.R)

• I can read difficult texts accurately and fluently. 

• I can find strong evidence in a text to support my analysis and ideas.

• I can identify and explain themes in literature and main ideas in informational texts. 

• I can analyze how authors create complex characters, plots, and themes.

• I can study an author’s word choices and explain how they affect the tone and meaning. 

• I can figure out new or difficult words using clues, roots, and reference tools. 

• I can compare how authors present information in different texts and media. 

• I can evaluate arguments and claims across multiple sources.

• I can analyze how authors from different times, places, or backgrounds shape their messages.
