You need to complete 40 hours of yoga and physical activities for full (.5) credit and 20 hours for quarter (.25) credit throughout the semester. I have linked a collection of yoga videos you can use for your sessions — they are a wonderful and varied resource, especially if you are brand new to yoga! You are also welcome to take yoga classes, use your own yoga videos or DVDs, or create your own yoga flow if you prefer. You do not need to do 40 different sessions — if you find videos you love, feel free to come back to them again and again! Please keep in mind that this is a yoga course, so the majority of your hours should come from yoga practice specifically. Please keep track of your hours throughout the semester so you can log them accurately in the last assignment in Edgenuity once you are ready to submit.
Yoga is a systematic practice of physical exercise, breath control, relaxation, and positive thinking and meditation aimed at developing harmony in the body, mind, and environment. The practice entails low-impact physical activity, postures (called asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), relaxation, and meditation. Don't worry if you have no experience with yoga (or no understanding of the terms in that previous sentence!) You don't need any equipment, not even a mat if you don't have one (I rarely use one.)
None! If you have a Yoga mat, that is great! If you don't, don't worry you don't need one. HOWEVER, if you tend to have sweaty hands/feet, I highly recommend using one for your own safety. It can be hard to hold some of the poses on carpet alone and almost impossible on a hard surface. Yoga mats provide excellent traction to help you hold your poses, and can be found at Walmart and Amazon for around $12. Also, some of the videos use a Yoga block. You can just get a towel or a blanket and fold it up into a small square and these work as great substitutes.
