Personal Fall Arrest Training (3:45min.)

Learn how Signal Technicians were trained to rescue themselves in the event that they fall out of a bucket truck. This innovative training give them real life experience that will help them if the worst should happen.

Digitized Customer Feedback Process for IMT Vehicles (4:54min.)

Innovation Station Update highlighting an innovation from the Incident Management Team. The IMT need a way to increase the customer service feedback response after rendering services to motorist on Utah roads. The team developed a new online survey that can be accessed from a Quick Response code linked to a Google Form survey. The response rate has increased dramatically since this new reply tool has been introduced.

Virtual Heavy Equipment Simulators (4:18min.)

In this Innovation Station Update, we profile a new training system the Employee Development team is using to help new Trans Tech quickly develop equipment operator skills. If you have a story about something your team is doing that helps to keep people safe, makes your work easier, or saves time or money, share your idea in the Ideas Portal. Visit the Innovation Station to learn more about Innovation Council members and innovations happening throughout the department.

Custom Lock Bolt Puller (3:41min.)

The Traffic Maintenance Division is currently changing the lock mechanism in 1,800 traffic signal cabinets across the state. One part of the lock update requires the spring bolt to be removed from the lock. This particular step proved to be both time consuming and tedious. The ITS Lab developed a custom tool to aid in the removal and replacement of the bolt. This simple tool is saving hours of work in this project.

Port of Entry Workstation Efficiency (3:08min.)

Some people work with two side by side monitors. Can you imagine working with seven monitors and seven wireless keyboards and mice at one desk? The challenges of using the correct keyboard and mouse with each system are daunting. In this video, see how Howard Trexler and the Port of Entry staff worked with Jordan Lee and the Business Systems team to improve the workstation setup to save time and make their work more efficient and easier.

Loader Multitool (4:08min.)

The crew of the Riverside Shed in Region One wanted an easy way to move a trailer without hitching to a truck. The resourceful team designed and fabricated a multitool that can mount to a front end loader. The new tool allows them to move trailers and many other items in a way that is safer, easier, and saves time. In this new Innovation Station video Robert Hardy explains and demonstrates the multitool the team created.

Median Barrier Saddle Lift (3:55min.)

The UDOT Region Two Sign and Guardrail 2444 crew needed a way to easily repair barrier signs without the use of a crane truck. The crew developed a new tool called a Saddle Lift that allows them to use a pickup truck winch to lift the heavy sign post. The new tool is cost effective to fabricate, requires fewer resources, and lowers the overall cost for sign repair. For regions without a crane, this tool is easy to deploy and does not require a traffic lane to be closed.

Curb Design Collaboration (4:19min.)

When preparing specifications and drawings for roadway elements, UDOT Central Preconstruction wants to involve many stakeholders in helping plan road elements. In this example, the collaborative process brought together people from Maintenance, Design, Traffic and Safety and Active Transportation to help plan for curb bulb-out specifications. More experience and input leads to better specs, which results in a better experience for all users.
