  • PGY2 Residents have priority for patient care rotations in the NCR and need 2 x 2 month blocks.
  • PGY3/4 need 4 months of patient care.
  • All military residents patient care rotations should include an industrial site appropriate to their service and an MTF.

Naval Health Clinic Annapolis Occupational Health

Description: Clinic provides occupational health care for employees of the US Naval Academy and Naval Support Activity Annapolis, including employees providing food and laundry services, firefighters and police officers, commercial driver (bus), and teaching faculty involved in research, among others. Preceptor also serves as Director of Public Health, with responsibility for all public health services at Naval Support Activity Annapolis, as well as in Earle and Lakehurst, New Jersey, and Philadelphia and Mechanicsburg, PA.

Obtain appropriately detailed patient histories, with an emphasis on occupation and exposure (ACGME PC2, PC8, PC10)

Identify the potential relationship between patient symptoms and occupational and environmental exposures; effectively communicate and support an opinion about work relatedness (ACGME PC8)

Diagnose and treat, or refer and manage occupational/environmental illnesses and injuries with the use of consultants in related disciplines when indicated (ACGME PC8)

Manage a workers’ compensation case treatment plan, including provision of required medical documentation, following the relevant jurisdictional rules (ACGME PC10)

Identify non-occupational/environmental factors that may contribute to occupational and environmental disease or injury (ACGME PC10)

Elicit patients’ concerns about exposures and establish a therapeutic alliance incorporating risk communication (ACGME PC2)

Use clinical knowledge to assess impact of personal medical conditions on ability to perform work tasks and advise about modifications or accommodations that would permit continued employment (ACGME PC11)

Clinical OEM - Infectious Disease

Blood-borne, airborne, waterborne, food-borne, and fomite-borne pathogen exposure and associated illnesses (ACGME PC8)

Infestations and zoonotic conditions (ACGME PC8)

Transmission risk in food service workers with active infectious diseases spread by fecal/oral route (ACGME PC8)

Understand and follow recommendations from public health authorities, such as the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization, for immunization of the working populations seen clinically (ACGME PC2, PC8)

Apply CDC recommendations for tuberculosis surveillance and exposure evaluation, including contact investigation and testing for latent tuberculosis infection (ACGME PC2)
