Selamat Pagi!
I am Hannah Isabel P. Quero, a Pre-service teacher from the University of Santo Tomas College of Education, and I want to showcase my learnings from my month-long teaching internship in Malang, Indonesia. Let me take you on a journey through my meaningful and memorable experiences during my first time teaching (and learning) abroad!
A. SCHOOL: GENERAL INFORMATION AND ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATION
1.1 SCHOOL PROFILE
UM Malang City Laboratory Elementary School is an elementary school under the auspices of Malang State University and functions as an educational laboratory. SD LAB UM was founded in 1986 and has an ICP program that began in 2006 until now. This program uses the national curriculum (Merdeka) combined with an international curriculum. In this case, SD LAB UM is under the auspices of the UM Cambridge Center Institute for Developing Laboratory In Education ID 110 in collaboration with Cambridge Assessment International Education. This ICP program develops education by emphasizing three fields of study: Mathematics, Science, and English.
1.2 ACADEMIC SUPPORT SYSTEM
To ensure the smooth running of teaching and learning activities at the school, educational staff are assigned tasks according to their competencies. In addition to their primary duties as educators, each educational staff member is assigned additional tasks and responsibilities within their respective areas of expertise at UM Laboratory Elementary School. These additional tasks not only facilitate educational activities but also foster the work ethic and morale of the educational staff.
1.3 TEACHING SYSTEM
The school prioritizes the realization of students who excel in faith and piety, science and technology, character, environmental culture and global insight.
The school's Mission is to:
Increase faith and devotion to God Almighty through the experience of implementing religious teachings.
Organizing and developing religious and moral education for students through habituation activities
Organizing and developing quality learning processes through active, creative, IT-based, innovative, and fun learning activities.
Organizing student character education through positive habituation activities and exemplary behavior.
Organizing environmental education through cultivating school environments.
Organizing and developing student education through Bilingual class programs and International Class programs (ICP)
