Known as the Catholic University, the University of Santo Tomas is located on a green and twenty-two hectares sprawling campus. Established in 1611, it was originally situated in Intramuros, Manila until 1927, when it was transferred to its present site along España Boulevard in Sampaloc, Manila. As the oldest university in Asia, its campus houses eighteen structures: the twenty-two academic units; and two secondary schools. With its forty thousand students, it is the largest Catholic University in the world located in one site.
