“Enter the Life of the Lady who Cried.” Sinag presents an interactive exhibit based on Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows.
The Blessed Mother was given the name “Our Lady of Sorrows”, that reflects her profound suffering during the Lord’s crucifixion and death. The suffering Mary had to endure is comprised with Seven Sorrows or Dolors which were foretold by the Priest Simeon, who proclaimed to Mary that Jesus is the downfall and rise of many in Israel (Luke 2:34-35).
These Seven Sorrows are the following: The Prophecy of Simeon in the Temple, The Flight into Egypt, The Carrying of the Cross on Mount Calvary, The Crucifixion, The Taking Down from the Cross, and The Burial of Jesus. As a result, Mary is sometimes seen with her heart exposed with seven swords piercing it. Each suffering was met with the same courage, love, and trust that she expressed at the Annunciation, ("Let it be done unto me according to Thy word.").
Every September 15th, the Catholic Church commemorates the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. Thus, whenever we honor the Our Lady of Sorrows, we honor her as the faithful disciple and exemplar of faith.

For our 2022 exhibitions, we have chosen this specific image of Mary to convey our appreciation for all mothers’ hard work and efforts, and sympathy for the struggles and sorrows that come with being a mother. As a collective, we have chosen to combine secular and non-secular elements in order to push the boundaries of what art can be.
In order to turn our visual mood into a reality, we have chosen the colors black and red for our exhibit as we believe that these two colors would encapsulate the essence of Our Lady of Sorrows. Black, which can symbolize grief and sorrow, and red, for passion.
