CNRS highlights strategic partnership with USP at international event on global challenges
November 2025
The French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) recently held an inter-institutional event in Paris (October 29) that brought together leaders from its International Research Centers (IRCs) across the globe, including the IRC Transitions, which was established in partnership with USP. The meeting, which focused on how these centers address major planetary challenges such as the climate crisis and the energy transition, resulted in the dissemination of various communication materials by the CNRS. Among these materials are an institutional article and video coverage, reinforcing the importance of multidisciplinary and international collaboration – such as the one promoted between Brazil and France – for the advancement of science in strategic and globally impactful themes. Links to access the materials are provided below.

Support for the development of European projects
November 2025
The CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research) recently decided to strengthen its support for European project initiatives in South and Central America, by appointing a European Project Engineer (Ingénieure Projets Européens – IPE), Giulia Galluccio, for the region. Giulia's role is to identify relevant European funding calls for the active research teams and networks, acting as the main point of contact for European programs, assisting in mapping opportunities, providing guidance on the eligibility of CNRS-affiliated or partner teams, and connecting researchers to the appropriate European channels for project preparation and submission. This initiative reflects the CNRS's growing commitment to increasing the participation of its international partners in European structures, and strongly encourages considering the European level as a strategic lever for the development of ambitious and multidisciplinary projects.

FAU and IME represented in a meeting with the Pro-Rectory of Research and Innovation
September 2023
On September 25, 2023, the first meeting of the USP Academic Research Project Management Training Program (FGA) took place at the USP Innovation Center (InovaUSP), promoted by the Pro-Rectory of Research and Innovation (PRPI USP).
The opening lecture of the meeting featured the President of the Brazilian Association of Research Managers, Juliana Juk Susnik, who addressed the challenges of the research manager profession, especially in university environments.
The Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism (FAU USP) and the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics (IME USP) were represented by Dr. Camila Silva, an FGA fellow who works at both units, and one of her supervisors, Professor Dr. Alfredo Goldman from IME USP, coordinator of the Thematic Project “Trends in high-performance computing: from resource management to new computer architectures” funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). Professor Artur Rozestraten from FAU USP coordinates the FAPESP Thematic Project “Arquigrafia Experience 4.0,” which also involves the collaboration of the FGA fellow.
In total, the event was attended by ten FGA Program fellows from different University campuses, in addition to several of their supervisors who are also coordinators of FAPESP Thematic Projects benefiting from the FGA Program. Also participating in the event were Professor Susana Inés Cordoba de Torresi, Associate Pro-Rector of Research, and Professor Raul Gonzalez Lima, Associate Pro-Rector of Innovation, both representing Professor Paulo Alberto Nussenzveig, USP's Pro-Rector of Research and Innovation.
The FGA Program was created in August 2022 by the PRPI USP and implemented starting in 2023 with the purpose of designating researchers with doctoral degrees to meet the need for training qualified professionals for the academic management of large research projects. The Program aims to optimize the time of principal investigators, increasing the international competitiveness of research and promoting the advancement of various areas of knowledge and innovation within the University.
