This camp is for the athlete who aspires to play water polo at any level and focuses on developing middle school and high school aged athletes, beginners to experienced players. Athletes should be entering grades 6 to 12. Attendees will be divided based on age and experience level to ensure each individual is able to train and compete against the appropriate level of competition. Sessions will focus on the fundamentals of water polo and individual skill development. Sessions will include water polo drills, small team scrimmages, and game play to reinforce the learned skills and tactics. Attendees will receive high level instruction in fundamentals as well as more advanced water polo skills and team strategies from coaches who understand developing competitive players as well as what it takes to play at the college level. Sessions will be intense and designed to push each camper past his/her comfort zone to improve his/her overall play. This is a perfect camp for boys and girls who are beginners as well as the boys and girls aspiring to play in a competitive club or high school water polo team. Since this is a day camp, it also provides time for families to explore the Annapolis and greater Washington, DC area during the evenings.

A dedicated goalie coach will provide goalies their own training sessions in the mornings before they integrate back with the field players as needed. Goalie instruction will emphasize a variety of skill sets ranging from the fundamentals to high level training. There is no substitute for good goalie play. The goaltender commands his/her defense and initiates the offense.

Please note that this is a day camp and there will be no lodging available on the Naval Academy grounds for this camp. Please check the “Hotels” section on our FAQ page for lodging recommendations and lodging discounts negotiated by the Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA). Athletes should plan to pack a lunch or plan to get a meal locally in Downtown Annapolis during the two hour lunch break.

The location for the camp training is Scott Natatorium, United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD 21402.

Who should attend Winter Clinics?

The Winter Clinics are designed for the beginning, the developing, and the most skilled water polo athletes. Instruction is differentiated to provide a meaningful and memorable experience for all levels of athlete. However, even though water polo experience is not necessary for this camp, all campers must be comfortable in the water for two sessions a day. All of our pools are deep water and it is not feasible for campers to rest on the bottom of the pool during instruction.
