I am an Associate Professor in the Mathematics Department at the United States Naval Academy, where I teach both in the core math curriculum and in the math department's Operations Research major.   My research focus is mixed-integer and global optimization methods and applications.  I love introducing midshipmen to the tools of Operations Research and optimization and seeing what cool applications they come up with.

I earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Sewanee: the University of the South and did my graduate work (M.A. and Ph.D.) in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Kentucky, specializing in Combinatorial Optimization under the guidance of Jon Lee.   I have been employed at the U.S. Naval Academy since 2016.

USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69)

Flight deck from above.

Thank you to the Public Affairs Officers aboard the CVN 69 for hosting 12 of us from the Naval Academy, to the Naval Aviators who got us there safely, to the Culinary Specialists and other sailors who kept us comfortable and fed, to all of the enlisted sailors and officers who took time out of their busy work days to give us a glimpse into their daily lives, and to Commanding Officer CAPT "Chowdah" Hill for sharing his leadership philosophy. It was incredibly impressive and eye-opening. I now have even more appreciation and admiration for the women and men who serve aboard aircraft carriers!  (September 29, 2023)

I had the pleasure of helping Jon Lee (right) and Shmuel Onn (left) celebrate their birthdays at École des Ponts, Marne-la-Vallée, France.
