Under the William Oliver Student Research Program of the Philippines Biodiversity Conservation Foundation Inc. (PhilBio), five BS Biology interns from the University of St. La Salle (USLS) took part in the floral and faunal assessment of the Cuernos de Negros Mountain Range in Valencia, Negros Oriental held on July 15–28.
The internship program is in partnership with the Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD) - Negros Oriental, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region VII through the Conservation Development Division, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) - Negros Oriental, Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), Negros Oriental State University (NORSU), USLS, and the Philippine Initiative for Conservation of Environment and the People.
The assessment is part of the greater initiative to establish the mountain range as a Protected Area (PA).
