Frequently Asked Questions

When can I find out which teacher my child will have?

An email will be sent home in early August with the name of your child's kindergarten teacher. Your child's teacher will call you to schedule a parent-teacher conference before school begins.

When and where should I drop my child off for school?

You may drop your child off at 7:45 am. Kindergarten students will meet outside and enter the common's door at 7:45.

We recommend that parents walk their Kindergarteners to the line for at least the first few days of school.

Additional information is available on our Kindergarten Orientation Slidedeck.

What are the afternoon pick-up procedures?

All children will be walked to the dismissal doors at the end of school. Please wait outside for your child and connect with the teacher for a safe transition.

Additional information is available on our Kindergarten Orientation Slidedeck.

What is the procedure for snacks and lunch?

Students eat breakfast in the cafe at 7:45. Children may bring a healthy snack to eat during the day. Kindergarten lunch time is 10:45 am. Students may purchase lunch from the cafeteria or bring a healthy lunch from home. Additional information is available on USD 497 page.

What happens if my child gets sick or hurt?

We have a School Nurse or Health Clerk on campus five days a week. Your child will be evaluated and treated immediately. You will be called if the injury is severe or your child must go home due to illness.

I work. Do you have after-school care for Kindergarteners?

Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence is the after-school care at Woodlawn. Additional information is available on the BGC website.

I would love to help around the school and in my child’s class. How do I go about volunteering?

We love our parent volunteers here at Woodlawn! All of our classrooms welcome volunteers, and there are many ways that both working and stay-at-home parents can be involved. Please speak with your child’s teacher to find out how you can help. We also have an active and enthusiastic PTO. Meetings are on the first Wednesday of the month at 5:30 pm.

What does the full-day kindergarten schedule look like?

The typical day in Kindergarten includes teaching and learning in the major content areas and specialist time, including music, library, art, or physical education, depending on the day.
