When can I find out which teacher my child will have?
An email will be sent home in early August with the name of your child's kindergarten teacher. Your child's teacher will then call you to schedule a parent-teacher conference before school begins.
When and where should I drop my child off for school?
You may drop your child off at either the cafeteria's door or main entrance. Cafeteria Doors will open at 7:45am for breakfast. All students may enter the building at 8:00am.
We recommend that parents walk their Kindergarteners to the line for at least the first few days of school.
What are the afternoon pick-up procedures?
All children will be walked to the dismissal doors at the end of school. Please wait outside or in the pickup line for your child. They will be brought to you for a safe transition.
What is the procedure for snacks and lunch?
Breakfast will be eaten in the cafeteria beginning at 7:45 am. Children may bring a healthy snack to eat during the day. Kindergarten lunch time is 10:50 am. Students may purchase lunch from the cafeteria or bring a healthy lunch from home. Breakfast costs $2.10, lunch is $3.10, and milk is $.75.
Additional information is available on USD 497 page.
What happens if my child gets sick or hurt?
We have a School Nurse or Health Office Assistant on campus 5 days/week. Your child will be evaluated and treated immediately. You will be called right away if the injury is severe, or if your child needs to go home due to illness.
I work. Do you have after-school care for Kindergarteners?
Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence is the after-school care at Sunset Hill.
Additional information is available on the BGC website.
I would love to help out around the school and in my child’s class. How do I go about volunteering?
We love our parent volunteers here at Sunset Hill! All of our classrooms welcome volunteers and there are many ways that both working and stay-at-home parents can be involved. Please speak with your child’s teacher to find out how you can help.
We also have an active and enthusiastic PTO.
What does the full-day kindergarten schedule look like?
The typical day in kindergarten includes teaching and learning in the major content areas, specialist time which could include music, library, art, or physical education, depending on the day. Two Recesses and lunch are also included within the typical school day.
