Provide your child with exposure and experience to social experiences prior to beginning kindergarten. This includes play dates, preschool, sports teams, camps, music groups etc
When engaging in activities and going about a daily routine with with your child, emphasize the importance of sharing materials, takig turns, maintaining personal space, and cleaning up.
Emphasize the importance of transitioning from one activity to another (going from play time to meal time, play time to bed-time etc) safely and with appropriate expected behavior. Kindergarters do have to make lots of transtions throughout their school day
Emphasize and reinforce the importance of following directions from adults in different settings.
Try to take the time to have conversations with your child. Encourage them to listen to others, not interrupt, and ask questions.
Teach your child how to introduce themselves, and make sure they know your full name
Encourage your child to express their emotions using their words and to ask for help when needed
Normalize with your child how making mistakes and experiencing failure is a healthy part of life and it is important to just have fun! Playing lots of games with your child and practicing losing is a great, fun way to work on this skill!
